... the album is called "faith" and it is not a religious record (though it's not necessarily anti-religion, either). This album features Suzanne Perry (Love Spirals Downwards), Amanda Kramer (The Golden Palominos, World Party, Siouxsie, Psychedelic Furs), Shikhee (Android Lust), Dru Allen (This Ascension), Aimee Page (Vishnu's Secret), and of course, Jennifer McPeak (the original Falling You vocalist). "faith" examines what we humans do when life knocks us of our perch and our beliefs are tested -- will whatever we put our faith in save us from the fall, or will it shatter like glass as we plunge through it? What do we do when everything falls apart all around us?

I'm Shien Lee, an event promoter in New York City - and I would like to invite all modern dandies, decadents, aesthetes, artists, thinkers, and dreamers to join us on February 8th and 9th for the 2008 Dances of Vice Festival in New York City! dark experimental noise show (found sound and extended vocals) in San Jose this Saturday night

By the way, I"m going to be doing an experimental show utilizing gongs, found objects and extended vocal
techniques at the Anno Domini Gallery in San Jose (366 South First Street between San Salvador and San Carlos)
this coming Saturday night with a creative touring group from Porltand, yourdrugsmymoney.
We will be doing a collaborative set at the end of the night and there is talk of putting this out on yourdrugsmymoneys' record label if it comes out well.

Because I've been so into Power Noize, Noise and Industrial/EBMish stuff lately, my performance will reflect a lot of that
sensibility.

I'm so excited, I just purchase a Feedback eliminator which will allow me to use very heavy distortion with vocals and found objects
without having all the uncontrollable feedback problems that occur with live microphones.

I'll also be projecting my new lo fi, toy digital video animations that I"ve been making at the show.
Come on out to an unusual creative show in the South Bay if you don't have anything to do.

It's 5 bucks at the door (8 p.m. start) and noone will be turned away for lack of funds.

"Human" released on Magnatune

... ok, it's a bit late, but the new Falling You album, "Human", is available on Magnatune as I write this. "Human" once again features the vocals of Aimee Page (Vishnu's Secret), Dru Allen (This Ascension), Erica Mulkey (Unwoman) and Jennifer McPeak (the original Falling You vocal magician), plus Suzanne Perry (Love Spirals Downwards) on one song (more to come, though <smile>).

Magnatune is an online music label that allows the buyer to set the price for the music e.g. as little as $5 for the complete audio files in WAV, AIFF, iTunes, MP3, and Ogg formats. Magnatune also encourages that you give the music you purchase from them to 3 of your friends ... how cool is that?

I also have "Human" CDs available, but the artwork is getting reprinted (they came out in black-and-white, which is not at all what I wanted). As soon as the new artwork arrives, i'll get "Human" on CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon, etc.

A Call to All Musicians / Sound Artists

Greetings All,
Please read from the Moderator of this tribe.... (& not meant to 'sell anything per say :)
I just recently joined a new site where you can build a free account & load up to 3 tracks (not sure how long each track can be, but uploaded a nearly 13min. track with no problem). What I really like about this new site is that you have the opportunity to create radio stations (very much like the old skool mp3.com site back in the day) & I really miss having this option. The down side so far, is that there are not enough cool, dark, ethereal or other artists listed there yet (as it is still relatively new but building)...

So I thought I'd give a call out to artists to join so that I can place some beautiful music on my stations.

So far, there does seem to be the option to upload up to 30 tracks, along with pics & CD sales options for a fee which amounts to around $5 a month or less... but so far, I am into the 3 track 'Free' Account...

Music driven by texture rather than by rhythm and melody describe THE DISQUIET FESTIVAL: Brainchild of Impresario Andre Custodio. Custodio, observing the current public interest in noise as a valid form of expression, wanted to put together an event that would feature music that integrates noise as a texture for sound design rather than it being the primary component.

Two sizeable on line communities established by Andre almost two years ago inspires the concept behind THE DISQUIET FESTIVAL: Both called 'Dark Ambient Music' on Tribe.net and MySpace.com. The communities are international, but include a decent percentage from the immediate San Francisco Bay Area. While the term 'Dark Ambient Music' may frustrate the artist who invests his/her time in engaging in the creation of material that fits (in various ways) the aesthetic implied, the genre is only identified as a point-of-reference for the potential listener. THE DISQUIET FESTIVAL is what it implies: Music that creates various levels of unease. One may be able to meditate to this music, but that's only if you consider the soundtrack for a nightmare to be comforting.

The artists involved in THE DISQUIET FESTIVAL bring their special singular voices to the event. The history of project Forms Of Things Unknown is shrouded in lore, and is presented in a legal document, saying that the composer is technically insane. The music of Dark Muse is informed by dreams, channeled by the voices presented to her in sleep. S.S.S. are a trio performing visual music with sensors and gestures; Electrodes analyzing muscle movement are used to help them create their sound.

THE DISQUIET FESTIVAL is a two-evening engagement at 21Grand in downtown Oakland, Ca., starting at 7:30pm on both Friday, September 30th and Saturday, October 1st, 2005. The website details what the specific artists are about and provides links to audio.

Andre Custodio is a Percussionist and Sound Designer living and working in San Francisco. He has produced local music events for the past ten years, including the infamous monthly Audible Method sound series at Venue 9 in San Francisco. His creative input in the genre is in a project called 'Nihil Communication', which may be comprised of unique instruments, synthesizers, voice, and found objects.

June update

Is there anybody out there...?

1) We only have one show coming up this month. On June 9, we'll be playing at El Mocambo in Toronto as part of the North By Northeast festival. We have a Vancouver show we are working on for July, but there has been some discussion of cutting down on the number of local shows we play. We have been getting seriously disenchancted with the Vancouver club scene of late.

2) We have learned the title and the release date of the compilation for which we recorded our cover of the Lush song "For Love". Never Lose That Feeling #1 is set to be released on September 12. Find the full details at the Club AC30 site: www.clubac30.com/home/releases.php

3) We have finished recording and mixing our next record. Now it just needs to be mastered. Can't say for certain when/if this album will ever be released, as we still have no leads on a record label.

5) Like every other indie band on the planet, Hinterland now has a Myspace page: www.myspace.com/hinterland. There you can stream a couple of brand-new tracks that aren't available elsewhere. John also has his own personal page. See if you can find it!

..so i stumbled over a new group (actually, just new to me...) on the Projeckt web site/store. Arcana. Anybody know them? I'm really grooving on the three albums I purchased: Le Serpent Rouge, Inner Pale Sun & The New Light.

Yum...

There was another band on the same site - new to me - Dark Sanctury - very french - sounded pretty nice as well.

Hinterland seeks new member

Vancouver-based Hinterland is looking for someone to play guitar and keyboards. Our influences include the usual assortment of shoegaze/dreampop stuff, but we also like tons of other stuff, like Mogwai, the Cure, Interpol, Tortoise, New Order & Joy Division, Brian Eno... quite a range of stuff.

We have a CD out on HybridElectric Records (Detroit) that has gotten a ton of awesome reviews, we've appeared on Canadian national TV a couple of times, we've charted nationally, etc.

We have immediate plans for touring and playing at major festivals (including Canadian Music Week), so we're looking for someone who is as serious as we are about making music, and who is willing to dedicate a lot of time and energy to it.

We have shows booked in March, so we need to find someone a.s.a.p.!

Genre Question

Looking for opinions and impressions:

So I'm setting up my new 400 CD changer with Genre's rather than Artist's names to better facilitate playing random pieces from my wide music collection.

I started out the categories of Ethereal, Darkwave, Ambient, & a more generic Female Vocals. I've put a lot of my music in the Ethereal genre, but am finding that I need to further refine my categories. For instance when the play goes straight form Enigma to Sheila Chandra it is, to say the least, a little jarring. Similarly, Bel Canto doesn't flow right into a Stoa track very well.

So, can anybody help me with some of their definitions of the various sub-genres that might be categorized as Ethereal/Dark Muse-ish, and suggestion of how I might further break down my categories for a more subtle and harmonious mix?

new Hinterland review

Unicorns? Dragons? Medieval fantasy world? WTF?! Someone needs to get more... This is not a bad review, but I consider Hinterland to be a rock band, and I get a bit... persnickety... when others fail to see it. Oh well.

Release Date : November 18, 2003.
Label: Hybrid Electric.
Rating: Andy doesn't dig rating stuff.

Hinterland brings us in gently, starting with easy strings and easy harmonica... the instant thought is that this will be a beautiful CD. There are huge, cascading instrumentals to start songs, large chunks of vocelless bits. But the voice is used here as an instrument. There are lyrics, but you can't really pick them out easily; it's mostly just a flowing high strain over everything else. It's layered upon layers and layers. Three or four scintillating vocals going on at once. I find it somewhere between Bjork, Tori Amos, Delirium, and heck, I'll say it, Enya. It's all mellow and slow, and every instrument is pulled like taffy into these distorted wails, haunting. Flutes... also haunting. It's like a legend or something. Pans and unicorns and dragons. It's pretty and flighty and airy. There's points where the guitars come in and rock everything up a bit, and remind you that it's modern and real, and not something that's stranded in a fantastical medieval fantasy world... but gently. There's noise, surreal noise. And always that astounding voice.

Song of choice : Digging "Portrait Of My Invention" and "Tiger Tiger."

The New Dark Muse double disc release 'Ghosts in the Ethereal Garden' will hopefully be finished & put out in the next month. It has been a long time in the making... & after recording over 238 tracks in 2004... (not to mention all the sounds before 2004)... it was a daunting task to pick some of my faves to fit on 2 discs... (which I could have filled a few more discs easily).

Just a brief comment on concept...
My thought was to have each of the 2 discs take you on a sort of seperate journey... the first beginning with more ethereal & mellow tribal... then more lyrical with experimental hues & new areas I have not delved in as of yet.
The second disc is more Instrumental... dark ambient flavors...

I will try & post here once the newest release is out. I am so excited & can't wait for this release!

Hi! I'm new to this group. Names Jen, as you can see :) I bellydance a bit and have been thinking of making a choreography to Ataraxias Jarem Gitti/Anatolian Love Song. I've been doing research on womens clothing in 13th century Anatolia/Turkey but unfortunatly not much is found by way of pictures. Or of the traditional dances. I'm thinking maybe this song is much older than 13th century? Any ideas or places online to find the meaning of this song? I'd like more songs with eastern approach to them if you have any recommendations I would be grateful!

Awake, Aware and Dark..

Here is a long post as to who i am..

The darkness is to me a palpable dark eneergy. I'm "awake" from a psychic /Kundalini POV so a lot of what i am talking about is literally qualities of energy.

It is frankly wonderfully charging.. It feels like life and being reborn.. But there is a price. A high one. It clouds the heart and consumes the lighter energies.

It cuts off ones conection with people and it is a powerful dark energy. Even talking about it turns me on to no end.. I LOVE it.

I have "power issues". I come from a Sicilian family that is strife ridden, chaotic and addiction driven. Psyical and emotional Abuse was the daily norm.

I was born sensative and covered it up to deal with the day to day realities of my home.. Years later.. At Burning Man in fact, i discovered the ability to heal with energy and my kundalini went Kaboom! Within a week I was seeing energy move through people like other people see physical reality...

4 years after much study and qi gong practice ( and discovering this isn't the first time around working with this stuff To be quite frank there are a good number of qi gong masters and Buddisht Monks who look at me and are impressed with the natural gifts.. ) I have discoverd the darkness is just as true as the light. Make no mistake about it. It is there.

What is also true in all of this is that the darkness has been there all along. Calling me. In many ways it is my home. It is who i am.

There have been dreams of dark goddeses calling to me.. And all along the way all of my life a yearning for dark sex, vampires, and luscious, lacivious behavior.

The gods of war turn me on. As a precious little child i started reading at 2. My favoirite author at 4 was edgar allen poe.. Why??? The poem Ligea and from the drug addled brain and hurt fueled emotions off loss and despair were what i bonded with.. Books about medival weaponry and the comics of Charles Addams all before i ever picked up my first lunch box.

What is there to find in the dark. Maybe it is myself. Maybe the dark will consume me. And maybe not. I dont really know..

But i have liberated the dark energy inside me and every day it grows stronger and stonger..

I remember the warning recived by the Daiali Lamma before i recived the medecine Buddha empowerment from him... ( i all i have recived about six different empowerments from him in person)

Be sure to study the Buddhist texts he said, becuse when one recives this type of empowerment if one does not stay clear one can find themselvesz reborn in the hell realms..,

All i can say is I will be who i am. I will meet myself no matter what my destiny is. I will remain present for my life be it light or be it dark...Maybe i am finding the darkside goddess and calling her divine as well..

Or both.. I dont know.. I do know that it grows every day, and i like it. What might be growing is my awareness of my own darkness..
